Vista compatible release for Prayer Journal
After feedback from users we have made some adjustments make Prayer Journal compatible with Windows Vista.

Vista operates more strictly compared with XP on what it will and will not allow to happen with file access. We have now finished re-writing section of Prayer Journal to comply with the new standards.

One of the differences with the Vista compatible version is where files are installed. This change is important if you have been running Prayer Journal under XP and have Prayer Journal entries you want to keep access to.

Click here for details on how to upgrade your Prayer Journal on Vista.

Upgrading from an XP installation of Prayer Journal

Under XP your Prayer Journal files are located (by default) at c:\program files\prayer journal.

Under Vista your Prayer Journal files will be located at c:\programdata\prayer journal

Method 1

The easiest way to transfer your data across is to import an previously created backup file. Try this:

1. Install Prayer Journal on Vista
2. Run Prayer Journal and add a user profile (keep the same user name and password from your XP version)
3. Open Backup Manager from the File menu (or click Ctrl+Alt+B)
4. Click the Import button
5. Browse to you old XP installation and location the backup folder (e.g. c:\program files\prayer journal\backup)
6. Select your most recent 'bck' file to import. (your backup file will now appear in the Backup Manager list)
7. Select the backup file from the list
8. Click Restore then All (when the restore is complete you will receive a message notifying you)
9. Close Backup Manager.

Provided you have used the same username and password, your Prayer Journal records should now be imported into your Vista installation of Prayer Journal. If you have changed username then you will need to close Prayer Journal and log in using the details from your XP installation.

Method 2

If you do not have a backup file, but still have access to your XP Prayer Journal/data folder, try the following:

1. Close Prayer Journal
2. Under your XP installation find the prayer journal/data folder (typically c:\program files\prayer journal\data)
3. Select all the files in this folder
4. Press Ctrl+C (or right click the mouse and choose Copy) to copy the files
5. Now go to your Vista installation (c:\programdata\prayer journal\data) and press Ctrl+V (or right click the mouse and choose Paste) to paste your files into the new data folder
6. IMPORTANT: You now need to re-run the Prayer Journal installation file (this is needed to update your files to the correct version
7. After running the installation file, start Prayer Journal. Your profile will be the same username and password as you previously had.

Updating an installation in XP to the latest version of Prayer Journal

The Vista compatible version of Prayer Journal is also compatible with XP and contains some new features from the previous XP only version. The same installation changes that apply to Vista also apply to new XP installations.

To update you XP installation you can use either of the above methods. The difference on XP is that the new location for the working files is c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Prayer Journal (this may be a hidden folder on your computer so method 1 is the preferred updating option)
